Microsoft Office 2007: How to Change the Default Line Spacing

Line spacing changes the appearance of a document. Often, your requirements are different from the default setting. Microsoft Word 2007 includes many options, and changing the settings to fit your current project is easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on a new document's line spacing button, found on the home tab in the paragraph section. The line-spacing button is on the bottom row, has two arrows--up and down--with lines beside the arrows. Clicking on this button opens the available options.

    • 2

Click on the line spacing desired, from 1.0 (which is 10-point), to 3.0 (30-point), or line spacing options for more customizing, such as single-spaced or double-spaced lines.

    • 3

Change the line spacing for complete sections or pages as needed. Highlight the text necessary to change if spacing changes are needed after text has been entered. While the section is highlighted, click on the desired spacing--this changes the spacing of the entire highlighted section.
