How to Write a Script Template
Writing a template for your script will save you time, but before you begin, decide which medium you wish to write for. The formats of scripts differ. For theater, it is straightforward: character names on the left in bold, with dialogue following.
Movie scripts require that every line be numbered, and television scripts only use half a page, allowing the left-hand side to be left blank for camera notes

A movie script needs a pitch and synopsis. Format the title page. Write the title and your name followed by the genre, such as comedy, tragedy or thriller. Write your name, address and contact details in the bottom left-hand corner.

An axe murderer would need an axe. List the characters on the next page, with a brief description of each to help the director. State the period the play is set in, the scenes where the action takes place and any essential props that are needed.

Costumes are not your concern--they are up to the designer. Write the pitch, if it is a movie script. This is a short, punchy paragraph that will get the director's attention straight away. Format another page for the synopsis, which is the plot of the movie. Add a synopsis to any script, so the producer knows the story.

TV scripts can be shorter. Start your template for the meat of the piece, the script itself. Allow room for double-spacing, and use a separate page for each scene and act.
You will need 100-plus pages for a movie script and a theater script should run two hours minimum, but TV scripts can be shorter.

Movie and television scripts make more money. Add a page for your biography--the producer needs to know what you have written before.

Tips & Warnings
Always keep a copy of your script.
Do not write stage or lighting directions--that is up to the director.
Make a template for each medium if you write for theater, movies and television.
