How to Fluff Out Macrame Yarn
When all the knotting is done on your macrame wall hanging or plant hanger, there are choices yet to be made about the cords left at the bottom of your project. Some braid the cords, or tie beads to the ends. Another option is to fluff out the cord ends. For almost any macrame project, this treatment creates a dramatic look. Hemp twine works well for this, as does nylon cord.

1
Tie off your project. A wrap works well for a plant hanger, for example. Bunch the hanger cords just below the pot container leaving a length free for fluffing. Lay a short length of cord along the bunched area, a loop at the top. Wrap with the lower end of the cord, from the bottom, leaving a bit of loop free. Thread the cord through this loop, then pull the lower cord to move the loop down into the wrap to secure it. Trim ends.

2
Unravel or untwist each of your cords below the wrap, or below your final knots if you are doing a different type of project.

3
Comb through the untwisted strands with a wide-toothed comb or hair pick. The strands will begin to fluff at this stage.
-
4
Finish fluffing your strands with a brush. One with stiff bristles works best.

5
When the macrame cords reach the desired fluffiness, trim the ends evenly with scissors.
