Finding Stimulus Funding
-
1
Decide what you need to get funded. Before looking at an exhaustive list of grants for recovery projects, you should know what sector you need the grant for. Stimulus funding is distributed through different federal departments, such as The Department of Agriculture, The Department of Defense and The Department of Health and Human Services. If you are looking for a grant for a stimulus medical project, you will look for grants within the Department of Health and Human Services.
-
2
Visit a government grant database. There are a few government databases that will help your search to find stimulus funding such as grants.gov, cfda.gov, and fbo.gov. These databases hold information about specific federal grants available from all government departments.

3
Conduct an advanced search. The best way to look for federal stimulus money is to start with an advanced search since the results of a basic search will be overly broad. When you choose an advanced search option, you have the opportunity to put in a key word, the type of grant you are looking for, eligibility information, the federal department that may cover the grant for your sector, deadlines and programs. Putting information in any of these categories will greatly reduce the number of results and make it much easier to find your grant.
-
4
Apply for your grant. Federal grants are usually applied through the government database grants.gov. Once you find the grant that you qualify for, follow the steps listed by the program to apply. Most stimulus grants will require a project proposal that give details about your project such as budget projections, program abstract, and personal information. Proposals should be submitted along with an application electronically.
-
5
Check the status of your application. Applications submitted electronically will have a tracking number that will allow you to check for updates about your submission. Applicants should prepare to wait up 90 days for a response, however, it is important to check back to see if any additional information may be needed to process your application.
