How to Stop Java 6 From Updating

By default, the copy of Java 6 installed on your computer will attempt to automatically update itself every time it senses an Internet connection. If you want to stop this from happening for whatever reason (either you don't want to upgrade to a newer version of you don't want the upgrade using your computer's network bandwidth), you can stop it by adjusting Java settings in the Control Panel.

Instructions

1. Click "Start."

2. Click "Control Panel."

3. Click "Java."

4. Click the "Update" tab.

5. Remove the check from "Check for Updates Automatically" and click "Apply." Java 6 will no longer attempt to update itself on your computer.
