1
Stand with your feet together facing one direction with your hands by your side. This is a standard ready position for Country & Western line dancing.
-
2
Step your right foot to the side on count one of the music, and then step your left foot behind your right foot on count two. Step your right foot again to the side on count three, and stomp your left foot in place on count four. Clap your hands together at the same time you stomp your left foot. This is the beginning of the electric slide step, which is a basic step in Country & Western line dancing.
-
-
3
Repeat the electric slide step but this time to the left. Step your left foot to the side on count one, and then step your right foot behind your left foot on count two. Step your left foot to the side on count three, and stomp the right foot and clap on count four.
-
4
Put Steps 2 and 3 together and practice the moves a little faster.
-
5
Take three steps backward starting with your right foot, then take one step forward with your left foot. With all your weight on your left foot, tap behind you with the ball of your right foot. Transfer your weight to your right foot behind you, and tap your left heel out in front of you.
-
6
Transfer your weight back to your left foot and pivot your body 90 degrees to the left, or face the wall that was originally to your left side, to repeat the steps. You always will turn 90 degrees to the left after each foot tap movement that was explained in Step 5.
-
7
Do the electric slide movements followed by the foot tap movements and switch directions after every foot tap movement. You should switch directions to the left each time until you have gone in a full square. Speed up the movements and try them with country western music. These steps are the basis to every line dance.
-
8
Add your own creative touches to the line dance. You can add things like a turn in the middle of the electric slide or hop in the foot tap movement. You also can add some claps and stomps in between. You also can experiment with the position of your arms; keep them down by your side, or bent slightly at your waist.
