The New York Stock Exchange, or NYSE, is an electronic exchange where shares of businesses are purchased and sold. During active trading days, the stock price can fluctuate every second, based on the trading activity of the company. You can find a specific stock to track by looking up their stock symbol, or the symbol of their parent company, and entering it on the NYSE homepage, or on a financially focused website. You can look up information for TCBY, a franchise-based chain of frozen yogurt shops that is owned by Mrs. Fields' Original Cookies Inc., on the NYSE homepage.

Instructions

    • 1

Open an Internet browser. Search for the homepage of the New York Stock Exchange using your preferred search engine.

    • 2

Click on the listing for the NYSE.com website in the search results to bring up the page.

    • 3

Select the "Symbol Lookup" link located in the top right-hand corner of the NYSE Euronext homepage. A pop-up box labeled "Symbol Lookup" will appear.

    • 4

Select the "Company Name" radio button.

    • 5

Enter the search phrase "Mrs. Fields" and press the green "Search" button. If the phrase, "There were no matches to your search. Please try again" appears, enter the search phrase "TCBY" and press "Search." If no results are returned, the company is not currently listed on the stock exchange.

    • 6

Confirm company ownership. Review the company ownership on their website, or at company information websites such as Hoover's. These sources often list the company's current financial ownership.

    • 7

Look for potential IPO information if the company does not have a listing on the NYSE. Search news reports on financial websites such as Yahoo! Finance for potential initial public offering information for Mrs. Fields' Original Cookies Inc. or TCBY.

    • 8

Repeat the NYSE search occasionally in case the company has moved from private equity ownership to a publicly traded stock on the New York Stock Exchange.
