How to Keep My Laptop Secure at a WiFi Site

Keep your laptop secure while browsing the Internet in public places.

If you're using your laptop computer at a public Wi-Fi site, you're going to need to keep your connection as secure as possible. Oftentimes public Wi-Fi access points are unprotected, which means that anyone also connected to the Internet has the opportunity to access files or data on your computer. You can combat this and keep your laptop as safe as possible by using Windows' native "Windows Firewall" application.

Instructions

1. Click "Start."

2. Click "Control Panel."

3. Click "Windows Firewall."

4. Click "Turn On Windows Firewall." The Windows Firewall will now be enabled. This application will monitor the outgoing and incoming connections of your laptop computer while you are connected to the public Wi-Fi site. Windows Firewall will automatically block malicious connections, allowing you to use a public Wi-Fi hotspot worry-free.
