How to Use MIDI Controllers in Omnisphere

Omnisphere contains a massive sound library with thousands of sounds.

Spectrasonic's Omnisphere pushes software synthesizers to the next level with its sounds and playability. Each Omnisphere sound contains two layers, each of which can be tweaked. In addition, Omnisphere offers many modes and settings that can be used in a live performance, including an option to split your keyboard and create ensembles containing multiple selected sounds. For the studio-oriented player, Omnisphere can also be used as a virtual instrument to lay down MIDI tracks.

Things You'll Need

• USB MIDI keyboard
• DAW host program
• Omnisphere VST plugin

Instructions

1. Make sure both Omnisphere and your DAW host of choice are fully and correctly installed. Once this is complete, connect the USB keyboard to the computer and install any needed drivers. The computer should recognize the keyboard.

2. Open up the DAW host program, and in the preferences, select the MIDI input option. The model of keyboard being used should be in the available menu. Select the keyboard and enable it.

3. Add a virtual instrument track, and when selecting a plugin, choose Omnisphere. Because the MIDI keyboard is connected to the host program, it will send data to Omnisphere and be able to control it. MIDI "Learn" functions can also be used for added control over knobs and faders.
