The Windows XP Taskbar contains the icons for quick launch of various programs. Administrators who have customized the Taskbar to meet specific criteria may wish to prevent any modifications to the Taskbar. There is a registry setting available that completely removes the properties option and prevents any further modifications.

Instructions

      Click "Start," then "Run."

      Type "regedit" in the text field.

      Press "Enter" on your keyboard.

      Navigate to the following registry location: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer"

      Each item that is separated with a "\" in the above location is a folder name. Click on each folder name until you are in the "Explorer" folder.

      Right-click in an empty space on the right pane and select "New," then "DWORD Value."

      Right-click on the new DWORD and select "Rename."

      Type "NoSetTaskbar" and press "Enter."

      Right-click on "NoSetTaskbar" and select "Modify."

      Change the value from "0" to "1"

    • 10

      Restart the computer.

  • In Windows XP Professional, this setting can also be found in the Group Policy Editor.
