How to Open WPS Files from an Email

Open a Works word processing file from your email.

The ".wps" file extension indicates that a document is a Microsoft Works file. Works is a basic word processing program that is able to perform many types of functions, including resume and cover letter, label and envelope formatting. However, .wps files are not always easily opened from email, since they are not as compatible as a standard Microsoft Word or .txt document. Fortunately, you do not need Microsoft Works to open a .wps document.

Instructions

Download and Open

1. Open the email with the .wps document attachment.

2. Press the "Download" link or button to download the attachment. Some email providers require you to click on the attachment to download it.

3. Click the "Open With" drop-down box on the dialog box that appears and select "Other."

4. Choose the word processing program of your choice from the list of programs. Click "OK."

Download and Save

1. Open the email containing the .wps file attachment.

2. Click the "Download" link or button, or click on the attachment file name, to download the document.

3. Select "Save" from the dialog box that appears.

4. Locate the downloaded file on your desktop or in your Downloads folder.

5. Right-click on the .wps file and go to "Open With." Choose the desired word processing program from the list.
