How to Create Your Own Creative Recreation Shoes

Paint an old pair of dirty sneakers to give them new life.

Recreation shoes, known commonly as sneakers, can be worn for a variety of activities. There are sneakers available on the commercial market in a wide array of designs. But if you are seeking something that is more customized, or you want to unify a team or organization with similar footwear, creating your own shoe designs might be the way to go. Just as you can purchase sneakers already decorated, you can also buy very plain ones that are waiting for your artistic eye.

Things You'll Need

• White vinyl sneakers
• Workable fixative in spray form
• Pencil
• Variety of paint markers
• Aerosol clear coat

Instructions

1. Choose a pair of sneakers that are mostly white and made from a smooth material like vinyl. Spray the shoes with a workable fixative product and allow them to dry. Sketch the design that you are planning lightly onto the shoes using a pencil; the workable fixative will allow you to spotlessly erase your mistakes.

2. Select paint markers in the colors that you want to use for your shoes. A simple design will look nice in two or three colors, while you may wish to use the rainbow for a more complicated decoration. Place the sneakers together and make sure that the designs match as exactly as possible, or are complimentary, if that is your intent.

3. Color your design with the paint markers. Be careful not to seep into areas where you do not want color or where a different color will be used. Let the paint dry for two days and spray both shoes lightly with aerosol clear coat. Wait one to two more days before wearing the shoes.
