How to Paint RC Bodies
RC cars can be a fun hobby, and individualizing your car with a custom paint job will give your car an extra flare. The interesting thing about RC cars is that most are made with a plastic body out of a material called Lexan. This body is actually painted on the inside to prevent any scratches or other damages from occurring to the paint job. Painting RC bodies properly is possible for most people when following a few steps.
Things You'll Need
- Warm water
- Liquid dish washing detergent
- Lint-free cloth or towel
- Masking tape
- Acrylic or enamel spray paint
- Large plastic bag or large piece of cardboard
Instructions

1
Wash off the body of your RC car thoroughly with warm water and liquid dish washing detergent. This is to eliminate any possible mold release agent residue that was left inside of the body.
-
2
Dry off the RC body with a lint-free cloth or towel to eliminate all moisture. Be sure to dry off the outside of the body as well.
-
-
3
Cover the windows or any other needed areas with masking tape. This is one of the best ways to prevent any paint from bleeding through.
-
4
Select a color of enamel or acrylic spray paint that you want. It is vital to use enamel or acrylic because they bond well to Lexan and other hard plastics.
-
5
Set the RC body on a large plastic bag or large piece of cardboard to catch extra paint.
-
6
Paint the inside of the RC body with your spray paint. Hold the paint can 8 to 12 inches away and go from side to side. Use smooth, even strokes to get a consistent looking finish.
-
7
Allow the paint to completely dry.
