If you choose keywords with a higher global monthly search volume, more websites will be competing against yours, and it will be harder to rank well on search engines.

2. Make sure your desired keyword phrases do not have too much competition by keeping track of the Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI), according to Michael Fleischner, a marketing expert and author of "SEO Made Simple." To calculate the KEI, find out how many websites there are in search results when searching for the keyword phrase on Google search, and divide the global monthly search volume of the keyword phrase by this number. Stay clear of keyword phrases with a KEI of anything fewer than one, since it would be too hard to compete for that keyword phrase. If there are too many competitors, either use another keyword phrase or break down the current phrase into a subcategory.

3. Use a free hosting provider for your website, like Wordpress, so that you do not have to pay hosting fees. Sign up on the website, choose a name for your website that relates to your niche, and obtain your new free domain name. Complete the registration process, by deciding on a free Wordpress theme. Wordpress offers a number of free themes you can choose from. Search on any major search engine to find additional Wordpress themes if you want more variety.
