How to Deer Hunt on Public Land in Kent County, Delaware
Hunting is enjoyed by many people each year in states across the country. Just like most states, hunting in Delaware requires a license. Hunting licenses in Delaware are released and regulated by the state Division of Fish and Wildlife. This agency is primarily in charge of wildlife conservation, licensing, and other types of outdoor registration. Hunters, residents or nonresidents, hoping to hunt cannot simply walk on to public property in Kent County. There are steps you must take before you can hunt on public land in Kent County.

Apply for a Delaware hunting license. In order to hunt on public land in Delaware, you need a hunting license from the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife. Licenses can be obtained on the Internet or in person. If you decide to purchase a license online, you must have a major credit card and your computer must be hooked up to a reliable printer. Print a sample license to make sure your printer is formatted to print the license. Also make sure your printer has plenty of ink and paper to print the license. If you prefer to purchase a license in person, you can pick it up at a number of local businesses. The Division of Fish and Wildlife's website lists all Delaware businesses that provide hunting licenses. Each Delaware counties have at least 10 different businesses that sell licenses. Kent County has 12 different businesses that sell licenses.

Licenses cost $50 per hunter per season for residents as of July 2010. Pay for the license. There are many different types of licenses. Nonresidents should expect to pay up to $130 for a license as of July 2010. However, visitors to the state seeking a more economical solution can buy a three day license. These only cost $50 per person. Resident hunting licenses cost $25 and are only required for hunters between the ages of 16 and 64. Residents more than 64 years old do not need a license to hunt in Delaware. Nonresident passes apply for all hunters older than 16. All hunters, resident or not, under the age of 16 must buy a junior hunting license. Junior hunting licenses are $50 and $5 for nonresident and resident hunters respectively. Licenses are not required for anyone under the age of 13. Licenses in the state of Delaware are valid for one fiscal year.

Go hunting. Now that you have a hunting license, you are able to hunt on public land in Kent County. Make sure you go hunting during designated state hunting seasons. Each type of hunting weapon has a designated season for deer. If you plan on using a hunting bow, bow hunting season occurs during the winter months. On the other hand, if you plan on using any type of firearm, you should expect the hunting season to be shorter. For most weapons, you are typically limited to claiming four deer per season. Turkey hunting rules are slightly different than deer rules. Turkey season usually lasts 20 days and occurs in April. Unlike deer, you are limited to only one turkey claim per season. When turkey hunting, it is illegal to wear visible red, white, or blue clothing.
