How to Set Up Remote Desktop in Windows XP Home Edition
Remote desktop requires a system installation that allows you to access your desktop, system data and applications located on your computer with Microsoft XP over a secure Internet connection. A user name and password is required to access the remote desktop to ensure a secure connection. Remote desktop allows you to access plug and play devices, such as scanners, cameras and music players running on the network computer as well.

Click on the “My Computer” icon on your desktop. Next, click “Properties.”

Place your mouse pointer over the “Remote” tab and right-click. Check the box beside “Allow users to connect remotely to this computer” if it is not already checked. Click the “Ok” button

Click the “Start” button on the bottom left of your computer screen. Locate the “Control Panel” title and highlight it with your mouse. Right click to open the control panel.

Select the “Add or Remove Programs” from the list on the left. Click on it to open a new window. Locate the “Add/Remove Windows Components” icon on the left of the screen. Click the icon.

Place a check in the box beside “Internet Information Services (IIS)" and then right click on “Details” under the box. Locate the Subcomponent list and click on the “World Wide Web Service.” Click the “Details” box.

Check the box in front of “Remote Desktop Web Connection” and click “ok.” Click the “Next” button in the “Windows Components” screen. When the wizard stops, click “Finish.”
