How to Extend the Battery Life of Your Apple iPad

How to Extend the Battery Life of Your Apple iPad thumbnail
Start saving the battery life in your Apple iPad.

While Apple markets the iPad to get 10 hours of battery life per charge, there are a number of functions constantly running in the background that can put a serious dent in that number, and as a result seriously cramp your iPad experience. Turning off some of these functions can help bring the battery life of your iPad back to par and keep you from having to go hunting for a charger after five or six hours of heavy iPad use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful not to attempt to charge your iPad on devices that do not support iPad charging. If a device does not support iPad charging, a message will pop up on the screen letting you know.

  • Your Apple iPad charges faster when it is plugged into a 10-watt USB charging device. The device charges more slowly when it is plugged into your computer.

  • Consider dimming the brightness on your iPad, or simply turn the brightness settings on your device to "Auto."

  • Lock your iPad when it's not in use to prevent it from turning on unnecessarily.

  • At least one time per month, completely drain the battery on your iPad and then hook it into a charger until it is fully charged.
