Pidgin is a free, multi-protocol chat client for Windows and Linux. Pidgin connects to a variety of popular instant messaging networks like Google Talk, MSN, ICQ, AIM and Yahoo. Pidgin consolidates all of your instant messaging accounts and contacts in one window; send and receive messages from all your instant messaging networks in Pidgin. Pidgin can automatically run each time you start your computer, automatically logging you into your instant messaging accounts with your configured status.

Instructions

  1. Windows

    • 1

      Open Pidgin by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and "Pidgin."

      Click "Tools" at the top of the Pidgin Buddy List window and click "Plugins."

      Scroll down in the Plugins window and click the check-box to the left of "Windows Pidgin Options."

      Click "Configure Plugin" at the bottom of the Plugins window.

      Click the check-box to the left of "Start Pidgin on Windows Startup" in the Windows Pidgin Options window and click "Close."

    Linux

    • 6

      Open the Startup Applications tool by clicking "System," "Preferences" and "Startup Applications."

      Add a new startup program by clicking "Add" to the right of the Startup Applications list.

      Type "Pidgin" or any name of your choice into the "Name" box in the Add Startup Program window.

      Type "pidgin" in lowercase into the "Command" box in the Add Startup Program window.

    • 10

      Click "Add" in the Add Startup Program window and click "Close" in the Startup Applications window.

Tips & Warnings

  • Configure the status Pidgin starts with by clicking "Tools," clicking "Preferences," clicking the "Status / Idle" tab in the Preferences window and modifying the options under "Status at Startup" in the Preferences window.
