Windows Media Player allows you to rip and burn CDs.

Windows Media Player is a digital music program that is offered for free from Microsoft. It comes standard with some computers, and can also be downloaded legally online. Some of the features that are available in Windows Media Player include the ability to rip CDs (save the tracks from a CD onto your computer) and burn CDs of customized mixes that you can use for whatever you want, such as long drives, holiday celebrations, party mixes and more.

Instructions

  1. Rip a CD

      Insert the CD you wish to rip into your computer.

      Open Windows Media Player.

      Click the "Tools" menu and then click "Options." Select the "Rip Music" tab. Click on the format dropdown menu and make sure it's what you want, such as WMA or MP3. Click "Apply." Click "OK" to close out of "Options."

      Click the "Rip" button at the top of Windows Media Player.

      Click the "Rip Music" button. The tracks from the CD will now be ripped and copied onto your computer and the Windows Media Player library.

    Burn a CD

      Insert a blank CD into your computer.

      Click the drop-down menu found underneath the "Burn" button at the top of Windows Media Player. Click "Audio CD."

      Click the "Burn" button, and you'll now see a list on the right side of Windows Media Player that is called the "Burn List." Click and drag the songs from the library that you'd like to burn into the "Burn List." At any time rearrange the order of the songs by clicking and moving the songs around in the "Burn List." Also, make sure your mix doesn't exceed the length allowed on your blank CD. If so, delete songs until you get the appropriate length.

      Click the "Start Burn" button that is located near the bottom of the "Burn List." A CD will now be burned.
