Create a Twitter presence that is as unique as you are.

Branding your Twitter presence is important whether you use Twitter for personal use or for your business. By branding your Twitter account, you'll create an account that people can recognize beyond the name. For example, a branded Twitter account will have a different color scheme, a background and even communicate with other Twitter users in a certain way. Branding your Twitter account will give you an edge over those who use generic Twitter pages because it will show that you have a solid presence online and intend to use it to keep in touch with other users.

Add a background to your Twitter page. There are many Twitter backgrounds available right on Twitter. To see these and choose one, log into your Twitter account, then click "Settings" on the top right. Then, click "Design." The backgrounds will show on this page and you can click one to have it appear on your account.

If you'd like a more personal approach, there are many websites that create free Twitter backgrounds that you can use. Do a Google search of "Twitter backgrounds" to find numerous sites that have these. Many sites allow you to log onto Twitter directly on their site, and they will place the background on your page. Be sure to know that this site is reputable, since you will have to give them your user name and password in order to allow them access to your Twitter account. Some free sites that work well include twitrbackgrounds.com and twitrounds.com.

You can also create your own background if you know how to use Adobe Photoshop or other design tools, or if you'd like to use a picture that you have on file. To upload the backgrounds, go to the Design page, scroll down and click "Change Background Image." Then, upload the image of your choice. It will give you the option to have the image as a whole, or you can tile the image if it is too small to span across the page.

Create a color scheme different from the generic offerings on Twitter, and maybe even one to match your new Twitter background. Twitter allows for multiple color schemes to be created. You can change anything from your feed's color, to the right sidebar's color, to even different colors for the font and links that appear on your Twitter page.

To get started, log in to Twitter with your user name and password, then click on "Settings" in the top left, then click design. Scroll down on this page and click "Change design colors." This will bring you to a page where you'll be able to change the colors on your website. The colors that you choose will automatically change as you choose them, so you'll be able to preview your site before you save it. When you're finished, click "Save Changes."

Interact with users in a way that represents you. One way you can do this is to put a tag at the end of your tweets, such as #yourbusinessname. This will allow users to click on this hashtag, and even when they are not on your Twitter page they can see all of the tweets with this hashtag. This also comes in handy if you get retweeted.

You can also make it a point to respond to anyone who responds to you on Twitter. Many companies, and even personal account users, do not respond to Twitter, which often defeats the purpose of why you are there. You are there to interact, communicate, learn and have fun with others - so give it a go!
