1
Select a location to plug in your automatic lamp timer, which is one of the simplest timers to operate but one of the most common. The lamp needs to be within easy access to an outlet.
-
2
Determine that the time selection pins that circle the timer are all in the “Up” position.
-
-
3
Rotate the timer’s dial to the current time of day. Notice the dial is half black and half white. Black indicates PM hours, and white indicates AM. Be sure to set the appropriate time of day.
-
4
Determine the time you want the lamp to turn on using the Intermatic timer’s dial. Push the pin down. Do the same with the time you want the lamp to switch off. Push all the pins in between the start and end times down. Set as many cycles per day as you need to by repeating this process.

5
Connect the lamp’s plug to the timer. Locate the “Automatic/Manual” switch on top of the Intermatic timer. Slide it to the “Automatic” setting. Plug the timer into the wall outlet.

6
Control when the lamp is on by switching it to “Manual” while leaving the lamp plugged into the timer. When you switch the timer back to “Automatic,” it resumes the program you set.
