How to Reset to Defaults on an HP 5550 Printer

If pets or children have played with your printer, you may need to perform a cold reset.

If you reset to the default settings on an HP 5550 printer, all of your custom settings will be lost. A cold reset turns the printer back to its original factory settings. You should only perform a cold reset if your printer is malfunctioning or if you cannot figure out how to change certain settings. Before you perform a cold reset, you may want to look through the printer manual to see if you can resolve your problem with the printer. If not, resetting your HP 5550 printer to its default settings is relatively simple.

Instructions

1. Power on your HP 5550 printer and look at the control panel display.

2. Hold down the green "Select" button when you see the memory start counting at startup.

3. Let go of the green button when you see the control panel buttons light up.

4. Select the "Down Arrow" button when the screen displays "Select Language." Look for the "Cold Reset" option.

5. Hit the green "Select" button when the "Cold Reset" option is highlighted. Wait for the printer to restore the default settings, which should take less than two minutes.
