How to Download YouTube Clips on Safari
According to YouTube, there are 24 hours of video being uploaded to the site every minute. Not only that, but people watch two billion videos a day. With all those videos, there are bound to be some you will want to watch repeatedly without having to keep going to the site. Safari has a feature called "Activity" that lets you download clips right from YouTube.

Downloading the Video

Open Safari and go to YouTube.com. Find the video you want to download using the "Search" bar at the top of the page.

Press Command-Option-A, or go to Window > Activity. This will open an "Activity" window. This list will contain all the activities for each of the tabs and windows you have open.

Go to the YouTube link and press the down arrow to expand the list. There will be a number of files that are in KB, but the file you want is going to be in MB.

Double-click on the MB file, even if it is still loading. The file will begin downloading, and will appear as "videoplayback" or "get_video."

Locate the file in Finder and add the extension ".flv" to its name once the video has finished downloading. This turns it into a movie file instead of a plain text file. Rename the file if you want to.

Download VLC or a similar media player.

Switch back to finder and right-click on the file you want to watch. Open the movie with the media player of your choice and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
To save time later, right-click the file you just downloaded and click "Get Info." Where it says "Open with:" change the application from Text Edit to VLC. This will open all similar files in VLC by clicking on them instead of having to right-click.
