IWeb allows you to design a website using customizable templates.

iWeb is a web development tool made by Apple that comes included on Macintosh computers. iWeb allows you to build and customize a website and publish to your own domain without knowing anything about HTML. IWeb is a great tool that will help you design sites quickly and easily once you learn how to use the program.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the iWeb program on your computer. Click "File" and select "New Site." A drop-down window will appear, allowing you to select the template you want for your site. Click the name of the template in the left-hand bar to see the different page options for the site. When you find a site you like, click "Choose." The first page of your site will open in the main window

    • 2

Edit the existing content and images in the site. Click on the content to highlight the text box. Double click on text to highlight and delete it; then create your own custom text. Be sure to use keywords that describe your website. This will help the search engines to find you, improving your rankings in the search engines. To change the font or color of the text, click on the "Fonts" icon below the main preview.

    • 3

Add links to your text by highlighting the word that you want to change to hyperlink, and then click "Inspector." Check the "Enable as Hyperlink" box; then enter the web address for the page you want to link to. Click "Open link in new window" if you don't want the user to leave the page when he clicks on the link. Check the "Make hyperlinks active" button if you want the links to work in the actual iWeb program. If you don't check this box, the links will still work on your live site, but they won't work when you are editing the site.

Use "Inspector" to edit other settings of your site. For instance, click on the Inspector button and the first "Page" button to change the name of the page. The name you choose for your page will also be the name of the link in the navigation bar, so choose carefully. A common title for the first page is "Home." Use inspector to adjust the alignment of the text under the "T" button, such as left, center, right or justified. You can also add bullets and choose your list preferences and text spacing on this tab as well.

Add pictures to your page by clicking the "Photos" tab in the right-hand navigation bar of the page. This tab will give you access to the photos stored on your computer, such as those saved in iPhoto or Photo Booth. Locate the pictures on your computer, and then click and drag each photo to the location where you want it on your page. Use the "Adjust" button at the bottom of the page to adjust the colors or other elements of the photo.

Add a new text box by clicking the "T" icon at the bottom of the page. Click on your page, and then drag your cursor to the right and diagonally down to create a box. Use the dots around the box to make the text box larger or smaller. To add text to the box, double-click inside.

Create a new page by clicking the "Add Page" icon at the bottom, or by clicking "File" and "New Page." Repeat the steps above to customize the page.
