How to Disable iTunes Automatic Updates

iTunes is music software that helps streamline music libraries.

Apple's iTunes lets you store all your music, books and other electronic media files in one streamlined place. The free software offers several options and preferences including how to view music, what to import and what to use for playlists. iTunes automatically updates itself when new plug-ins are available and when a new version of the software is available. If you wish, you can prevent iTunes from automatically updating itself.

Instructions

1. Launch iTunes.

2. Scroll your mouse over the "Edit" tab. It should be in the top left corner with other options such as "File," "View" and "Controls."

3. Click the "Edit" tab. A list will open. Scroll through that list until you see the word "Preferences." (If you're using a Macintosh computer, you'll find "Preferences" in the "iTunes" menu instead).

4. Click on "Preferences." A window will pop up. Be sure the "General" tab is selected. The tab is located in the top left corner of the box.

5. Move your cursor near the bottom of the box. There should be an option that says "Check for Updates Automatically." Uncheck the box next to this option.

6. Click "OK" to return to iTunes.
