      Read the instructions on the back of the MasterCard. Know what you will need to register the card and how you would like to register it.

      Call the phone number listed on the card to register it. You will be asked for the card and activation numbers, as well as your name, address and phone number by a computerized voice or a representative. According to the MasterCard Web site, you will also need "government-issued identification." If you prefer to set up your account online, go to Step 3.

      Visit the Web site listed on the back of the MasterCard and click on the "Activate Card" link.
