How to Access the Belkin Wireless G Router

How to Access the Belkin Wireless G Router thumbnail
Belkin routers require a hard wired connection to access the GUI.

If you have decided to enable security on your Belkin router, you will first have to access the Belkin router settings. These settings are located in the GUI (graphic user interface) and to get to them, you have to have a computer hard wired to the router itself. This helps to prevent anyone from accessing your router settings fraudulently. Once you access the router settings, you have the ability to secure the router and block users from it, and you have access to connecting your router to other routers to enhance the size of your network.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a web browser on a desktop computer that is hard wired to the router. If you only have a laptop or your desktop is also wirelessly connected, connect a desktop computer or laptop computer to the Belkin router. To do so, plug a Cat5 Ethernet cable into the Internet/WAN port located on the back of the router and plug the other end into the Ethernet port of the computer. A wired connection is necessary to access the Belkin router settings.

Type 192.168.2.1 into the URL field on the web browser and load the page by pressing, "Return" or "Enter" on the keyboard.

    • 3

Enter "admin" into the user name box that appears on the screen and leave the password blank and press, "Return" or "Enter" to access the Belkin router settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the default user name and password do not allow access to the Belkin router settings, the only way to get into the router is to master reset it to restore the default user name and password. To do this, stick a pin in the reset hole in the back of the router for 10 seconds. Once the router resets, the lights will flash.
