How to Exchange a Comcast Modem

How to Exchange a Comcast Modem thumbnail
Wear and tear and other technical issues may be the reason you must exchange your modem with Comcast.

Natural wear and tear or manufacturer defects may cause a modem to malfunction and require replacement. Going too long without an Internet connection can cause a lack of work and school productivity when online research or transactions are required. Comcast offers several options that will allow you to exchange your modem and regain connection to the Internet in a small amount of time. To save time, troubleshoot all issues with the existing cable modem before exchanging it.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact Comcast technical support to troubleshoot any issues you have with the modem. You may save yourself time if there is an issue with Comcast and not the modem itself. Contact Comcast either at 1-800-266-2278 or chat with a customer service or tech support representative online by visiting Comcast's website. Save any reference numbers or confirmation numbers that were issued to you by the technician or customer service agent to save time to quickly access the trouble ticket if you need to exchange the modem.

    • 2

Locate the closest Comcast customer service store to your location. Use the online store locator tool on Comcast's website by entering your street address and zip code to find your closest location. Note the hours and days of operation so you can go at a time that fits your schedule.

    • 3

Take the modem and its packaging and cords that came with it to a Comcast store for an exchange. Have your Comcast bill or identifying information so the representatives can access your account. Have a reason why you want to exchange the modem in case the representative asks. Save any receipts or printouts as a record you exchanged the old modem for new one.

Tips & Warnings

  • if you're unsure of how to install your cable modem contact customer service and have a technician bring you a new modem and install it for you. The installation date may take longer as opposed to you going to the store to get a new modem in an exchange.
