Internet Explorer is a popular web browser produced by Microsoft which is the default web browser on Windows PCs. Software producers like Microsoft periodically release updated versions of their programs and these can introduce new features such as improved security and better performance. In some cases, old browser versions may not be supported by certain websites. Internet Explorer users can update their software at any time using Microsoft's "Windows Update."

Instructions

  1. Update IE with Windows Update

      Click "Start," "All Programs" and then "Windows Update." You can also open Internet Explorer, click "Tools" and then choose "Windows Update."

      Click "Check for updates." A list of updates will appear.

      Select the updates and click "Install Updates" and wait for the installation to complete.

      Click "View available updates" if you want to install optional updates. Check the boxes next to optional updates you wish to install and then click "Install" or "OK."

    Install the Latest Version of Internet Explorer

      Go to Microsoft's Internet Explorer page (see Resources).

      Choose your region from the list and then click on your operating system. A file download will appear; save the file to your computer.

      Run the downloaded install file and follow the instructions of the setup wizard to install Internet Explorer. Restart your PC when installation is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Running Windows Update at least once a month will help ensure that you are using the most recent version of Internet Explorer.
