Get rid of those pesky pop up ads!

Pop-up ads are an annoyance that hinder the Internet browsing experience. As Internet marketing and consumer targeting become more savvy, pop-up ads are becoming increasingly prevalent. Firefox does offer its users, however, the possibility to block those pesky pop-up ads when using the browser.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Firefox browser and click on the word "Firefox" in the upper, left-hand corner of the browser window, on the menu bar.

    • 2

Scroll down the list of options that appear and click on "Preferences." A small box (yes, a pop-up) will appear on the screen, listing a number of Firefox settings that can be adjusted.

    • 3

Locate the "Content" icon along the top the box and click on it with your mouse. This will change the list of settings that are displayed in the box.

    • 4

Click on the box next to the "block pop-up windows" list option, which should be located at the top of the list. The box should now be checked, which means Firefox will now block all pop-up ads and windows.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're on a website that uses pop-up windows, and you need to make use of them, Firefox will allow you to do so. When the browser blocks a pop-up window, it will display a small message near the top of the browser window, along with the option to allow pop-ups on that particular website.
