How to Enable AutoPlay in Vista

AutoPlay analyzes the content of a removable media device connected to the computer and performs a specific action based upon the content included on that device. While AutoPlay is a feature automatically enabled in Windows Vista, users can easily change the AutoPlay settings from the Control Panel. If you or another user have disabled AutoPlay, you can reconfigure the settings to re-enable the feature. Moreover, you can also configure the feature's advanced options to change how it behaves when certain media is accessed on the computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start." Click "Control Panel." Select "Control Panel Home" from the menu on the left panel.

    • 2

Choose "Play CDs or other media automatically" from the options listed under "Hardware and Sound."

    • 3

Check "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices." Scroll through the list of extended options to change how AutoPlay performs when accessing a certain media or device in Windows Vista.

    • 4

Click "Save" to confirm your changes.
