How to Invest in American Stock thumbnail
New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the biggest stock exchange in the world.

The United States has the largest economy in the world. Its corporations are among the world's biggest multinational companies and include brands like Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Apple, General Electric and Exxon Mobil. Every year, billions of dollars from outside of America flow into U.S. stocks. Investing in American stocks can be very profitable although, like with any other stock market investment, there are certain risks.

Instructions

    • 1

Learn as much as you can about the American stock market. Read some books on the subject, focusing on those most recent and written by star traders and investors. For more up-to-date information, follow stock market news on business news agencies like Bloomberg and read stock market analysis and commentary in newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal.

    • 2

Choose a broker that offers access to the American stock market. Nearly all brokers do that, as it is the primary stock market in the world. Make sure your broker is a well-established firm that has a lot of clients and has been around for some time. Also, compare commission charges between different brokers.

    • 3

Open an account with your broker and deposit funds. Opening an account is easy and can be done online in less than 10 minutes. You can deposit funds in your trading account via a bank wire transfer, which takes about two to four days to complete.

    • 4

Buy stocks that you think are undervalued. A good way to choose a stock is to compare price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios of stocks, which measures the ration of the stock's market price and last year's profits per share. Companies with relatively low P/E ratio are generally considered undervalued.
