How to Replace a Cabin Filter in a 2002 Dodge Caravan

Dodge suggests that you change your cabin air filter every 15,000 miles. With a 2002 Dodge Caravan, this can be quite tricky, as not all Dodge Caravans have cabin air filters. The tricky part about this is that it's true no matter what your trim package or year. Some 2002 Caravans will have the filter, while others will not. Most of the Caravans with the 3.3-liter V6 engine will not have the filter (although some do), while those with the 4-cylinder most likely will contain the cabin air filter. Luckily, it's very easy to reach your hand under the dash and find out if you have one.

Things You'll Need

  • New cabin air filter
  • Reach under the dash on the passenger side and feel for the cabin air filter access door. You'll find this close to the center console, on the left side of the glove box and under the dash.

  • Unlock the filter door by pulling the slide bar toward you until the door drops towards the floor board.

  • Remove the door completely by sliding it toward you until it pops off.

  • Pull straight down on the air filter to release it.

  • Insert the new air filter in its place. Ensure that the arrow on the new air filter is pointed toward the center of the vehicle.

  • Replace the door by sliding it back in place.

  • Slide the door back by pushing it toward the hood of the car. Once you can't push it back anymore, push the door up so that it locks itself, and the new air filter, in place.
