How to Convert PSX Multidisc Games to PSP

The Sony PSP is fully capable of playing the first generation of Sony PlayStation games. These games are referred to as "PSX" games. In order to play them on the PSP, they first need to be converted to the PSP game format. If you have multiple-disc games, you can simply convert all the discs and use the "Switch Discs" function located on the in-game menu.

Things You'll Need

  • USB cable

Creating the PSX Game ISO File

  • Download Magic ISO Maker, Imgburn or Alcohol 120% from the links found in the Resource section of this guide and install it. Insert your PSX game disc into the computer.

  • Open Magic ISO Maker and click the drive that your PSX game disc is in from the file explorer on the main menu. Click the "Save" button and select a place to save the PSX game ISO file. Repeat this for the other discs for this game.

  • Open Imgburn and click "Create image file from disc." Click the "Destination" button and select a place to save the ISO file to. Click the green arrow to create the ISO file from your PSX game disc. Repeat this for the other discs that came with the game.

  • Open Alcohol 120% and click "Copy Wizard" from the main menu. Click "Source" and select the drive that the PSX game disc is in. Click "Datatype" and click "PlayStation" from the list that appears. Click "Next" and select a place to save the ISO file. Click "Start" to create the ISO file. Repeat this process with the other discs that came with this game.

Converting the PSX ISO Files to a Single PSP Game File

  • Download and install "PSX2PSP." Open PSX2PSP and click "Theme Mode." Click "Options" and click "Convert multi disc game." Click the "ISO/PBP File" button and select the first ISO file that you created. This is the disc 1 ISO file. Click the "Output Folder" button and select a place to save the PSP game file.

  • Click "Convert," and a new window will pop up. You will be able to add the other game discs to your PSP game file here. Click "ISO File 2" and select your second ISO file from disc 2. Repeat this for the other ISO files by clicking "ISO File 3" and "ISO File 4" until you have input all the discs. Click "OK" to create the PSP game file that has all of the game discs in a single file.

  • Connect your PSP to your computer and click "USB Connection" from the PSP main menu. Open the "PSP" folder on the PSP memory stick and you will see a "GAME" folder.

  • Go to the folder where the two PSP game files are that you just created and right click the folder. Click "Copy" and right click the "GAME" folder on the PSP memory stick. Click "Paste" to transfer the PSX game to your PSP. Disconnect the PSP from your computer.

  • Browse through the PSP menu, and you will see the game in the "Game" section. Select your game from the list to begin playing. When you have progressed all the way through the first disc you will be asked to switch discs. Press the "Select" button and select "Switch Discs."
