What does your fragrance say about you?

If a picture paints a thousand words, a fragrance has to be worth about a million. Does your scent say no-nonsense executive, seductive temptress or wholesome mom? Choosing a fragrance that makes just the right statement can be tricky, especially with all the choices out there, but it doesn’t have to be a completely overwhelming experience. If you just ask yourself a few questions and identify a few key points about your fragrance personality before ever setting foot in the fragrance department, you will soon be headed down the path to perfume perfection. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Identify Your Fragrance Profile

Determine what type of fragrance generally appeals to you. Most people tend to prefer a general category of fragrances, such as clean citrus scents, light florals, woodsy spices or warm Oriental scents. Identify which of these broad scents appeals to you, and then you can try fragrances within these groups, which will narrow your search.

Ask yourself when you will be wearing the fragrance. Will it be for daytime or nighttime? Spring or fall? People generally like to wear a lighter fragrance during the day and a heavier, more distinctive fragrance at night. A similar contrast applies to the seasons; in the spring and summer we tend to wear light, clean scents, while in the fall and winter we opt for warmer, richer fragrances.

Decide where you will be wearing the fragrance. Is it for work or play? A scent for a day at the office would generally be more subtle and elegant than one for a night out on the town, which could be more sensual and distinctive. Similarly, a fragrance for everyday casual wear would probably be lighter, maybe even sporty, as opposed to one worn for a special occasion.

Determine what you want your fragrance to say about you. What image do you want to convey? It’s up to you on any given day to decide whether you want to come across as playful, seductive, glamorous, sophisticated, earthy or sporty. The choices are almost limitless. Your fragrance can be that final accessory that completes your outfit, just like the perfect shoes or handbag.
