How to Install a Blower Motor on a 1999 Alero
As in all cars, the blower in the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero moves the air for the air conditioning, defroster, heater and vent systems. Replacing a failed blower motor is a job that you can do at home.
Things You'll Need

1
Open the hood of the vehicle and locate the battery. Using your 1/4 inch drive socket set, loosen the bolt which holds the positive (red) battery wire to the terminal, and then remove the wire. Isolate the wire from the terminal.
-
2
Open the passenger side door, and slide the seat back as far as it will go. This will allow for greater maneuverability in the car.

The blower motor should be held in by two or three screws. If you look up from below glove box, you should see them. You will need to remove the mounting screws which hold the blower motor in place. Do this by using a small, slotted screwdriver, or a socket and ratchet from your 1/4-inch drive socket set.

5
Set the blower motor mounting screws into a small cup or canister so that you do not lose them while moving around in your car.

7
Attach the wiring to the new blower motor. It is essential that you wire the new motor exactly how the old one was wired.
-
8
Reinstall the blower motor in the reverse manner from which you removed it. Tighten the mounting screws only to the point where they are snug. The screws do not have to be extremely tight.
-
9
Reconnect the positive battery wire to its terminal.
-
10
Start the vehicle's engine and turn on your fan switch to the lowest setting. Go through each of the fan's switch setting until you are at max speed for the fan, to test the new blower motor.
