How to Create a Link Calendar
A link calendar links calendar dates to event details. Use link calendars when you want to give additional details beyond the scope of your calendar. For example, enter a doctor's appointment into your calendar and then link the appointment listing to your doctor's website. You can create a link calendar in Microsoft Word by creating a calendar table and then linking each event to files located on your computer or on the Internet.
Instructions

-
1
Open Microsoft Word and create a new document.
-
2
Write the month and year in a large font at the top of the Word document as the title of your calendar. Write, for example, "May 2010" or "December 2011."
-
-
3
Select "Insert Table" or "Draw Table" to create a calendar in table format. Create a table with seven columns, as you will need a column for each day of the week. Calculate how many rows you need based on the number of weeks within the month. Add an additional row to display headings. For most months you will need to select a table with six rows, representing five weeks plus a heading row. Some months require seven rows since they span six weeks. Sometimes February will only require five rows if the whole month takes place within four weeks.
-
4
Select "Bold" font type. Type the days of the week in each table cell on the first row, starting with "Sunday."
-
5
Insert the number of the calendar day into each corresponding table cell, starting with the first of the month, and then press "Enter" to start to the next line. For example, if the month starts on Friday, enter "1" in the cell directly under the "Friday" heading cell. Enter "2" in the cell under "Saturday." Enter "3" in the second row under the "Sunday" heading to start a new week. Continue entering dates until the end of the month. Turn off the "Bold" text option.
-
6
Enter events and appointments into the appropriate calendar date box. If you have more than one event on a given day, press the "Enter" key between events to list each on its own line.
-
7
Click on one event listing at a time to highlight that event. Right-click to open a pop-up window. Select "Hyperlink" to create a link for that event. (Alternatively, you can select "Hyperlink" within the "Insert" menu.) Within the "Link to" option, select "Existing File or Webpage." For a webpage link, type the website URL into the "Address" input box. For a file link, find the directory and file name within the file listing box. Click "OK" to create the hyperlink.
-
8
View the event listing on your calendar. The listing should now contain a blue underline, which indicates that it links to a file or webpage. Click on the listing to test out the link.
