Flat stove tops provide a smooth cooking surface with a modern look. Cleaning requires little effort, as the flat surface lacks the grates, coils and drip pans of conventional stoves. To minimize the cleaning job, wipe up spills on flat stove tops as soon as they happen. Use a cleaning cream made specifically for flat cooktops to remove the toughest stains and restore the stove top's shine.
Things You'll Need
- Nonabrasive scrub sponge
- Dish soap
- Razor blade
- Cooktop cleaning cream
Dampen a nonabrasive scrub sponge with warm water and two or three drops of dish soap.
Wipe the flat stove top with the soapy sponge, utilizing the scrubbing side to remove any stuck-on debris. Rinse the sponge with clean water and wipe away any residue.
Lift away any stuck-on food or tough debris with a razor blade. Hold the blade at a 30-degree angle and slide it underneath the debris, gently lifting it away and taking care not to scratch the stove's surface.
Apply cleaning cream to the flat surface according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Spread the cleaning cream around the stove top with a clean, dry cloth. Wipe the surface with the cloth until it shines.
Tips & Warnings
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, steel wool or heavy-duty scrub pads on flat stove tops.
- Wipe up spills with a water-dampened sponge as soon as they happen, even if the stove is hot.
- Avoid cleaning the stove with products when the surface is hot.
