How to Install Yahoo Messenger 8.1

Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 is not the newest version available, but it remains a popular download. The fact that people are used to certain features on Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 makes them reticent to download newer versions even when they upgrade their computer. As newer versions of Yahoo! Messenger are more recently out of beta testing, Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 tends to give users fewer technical problems. Only the latest Yahoo! Messenger is available on Yahoo!'s site, but version 8.1 can be downloaded from a variety of third-party websites.

Instructions

Soft 32

1. Go to the website Soft32.com (see Resources). Click on the "Start Download" link and then on "Next" to begin installing Yahoo! Messenger 8.1.

2. Wait for a few minutes while your computer completes the download. A welcome screen for Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 should automatically appear. If it does not, click on the Yahoo Messenger logo in your task bar. This will access the Welcome screen.

3. Mark the box agreeing to Yahoo!'s T&C, then input your Yahoo! ID and password when prompted. If you are not already registered with Yahoo! click on the "Get Yahoo! ID" tab. Follow the instructions to sign up for a Yahoo! ID. You will then be automatically be redirected back to Yahoo! Messenger 8.1, which you can now begin using.

Old Apps

1. Go to the Old Apps website (see Resources). Select "Yahoo! Messenger Version 8.1.0.421" from the Yahoo! Messenger downloads available. This is the most advanced of the Yahoo! Messanger 8.1 downloads.

2. Click on the "Download Yahoo Messenger 8.1.0.421" link that appears next to the icon of a floppy disk. Press "OK" on the pop-up screen. Your download will begin.

3. Click on the Yahoo! Messenger logo that appears in your task bar, if the Yahoo! Messenger welcome screen does not appear after a couple of minutes. Mark the box agreeing to Yahoo's terms and conditions and enter your Yahoo login to begin using Messenger 8.1.

4. Press the "Get a Yahoo! ID" tab of you are not already registered with Yahoo! Follow the onscreen instructions, entering your name, desired login and a password. Once you are registered with Yahoo! you are automatically redirected back to Yahoo! Messenger.

Brothers Soft

1. Go to the Brothers Soft website (see Resources). Type Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 in the search box provided on the site. Click on the Yahoo! messenger 8.1 link that appears.

2. Read through the guidelines for Yahoo! Messenger 8.1. Check that it is the version you want and that the download is compatible with your computer. Press the green "Download" button at the top of the page.

3. Wait while Messenger downloads. If the welcome screen does not appear after a few minutes, click on the Yahoo! Messenger logo in the task bar.

4. Check the T&C box to accept Yahoo!'s Terms and Conditions. Input your Yahoo! login and begin using Messenger. If you do not already have a Yahoo! login, press the "Get Yahoo ID" tab.

5. Fill in the details required: name, e-mail address, desired username and password. Once you have registered with Yahoo! you are then automatically redirected back to Yahoo! messenger and free to begin using the program.
