How to Make Text Logos & Fonts
Creating a logo is an important aspect of graphic design, but creating a text-only logo or font can be challenging. Companies like Google, Coca-Cola, and PayPal have all managed to accomplish using text logos without much graphical embellishment. These companies are some of the most recognizable brands in the world, and it may have to do with the simplicity of their text logos. You, too, could be on the edge of creating a legendary text logo design.

1
Open Photoshop and create a new canvas by going to “File,” “New.” Enter a title for the template, enter 3000 pixels for width, 3000 pixels for height, and 300 for DPI. Click “OK.”
Starting with a high-resolution template is ideal for logo design. You can start larger, if desired.
-
2
Select the text tool. On the canvas, hold down the left mouse button and drag to create a text box.

3
Within the active text box, type the name you want to use for the logo. Make sure you use the name you plan to use for the logo. If you just use an arbitrary work, such as “example,” you will not get a clear representation of the logo.
-
4
Within the text box, highlight the word. Click on the font name in the top left corner; it should also become selected. To test for the perfect font, press the down arrow on your keyboard to scroll through the available fonts. The font within the text box should change as you push the arrow down or up.

5
When you find the perfect font, stop. With the text tool still active, change the color of the font by highlighting the font, and changing the color in the top tool bar.
If you have a multi-word logo, try using multiple colors for each word to break the logo into sections. PayPal uses two blue tones to provide separation between each word. Google uses multiple colors for each letter in their logo. Test to see what works best for your brand.

Add text effects. In the layers panel, usually located in the bottom right, right click on your logo title. Select “Blending Options.” Try using the “Drop Shadow” effect by checking the box beside “Drop Shadow.” You can also choose from other effects to suit the style you want to project.

Repeat steps two through six. Provide yourself with numerous options before settling on a final logo.
