How Can I Plug My Laptop Into a Denon Receiver? thumbnail
Hook up a laptop to a Denon receiver to enjoy the digital music on the computer.

Denon manufactures high-end audio receivers for home stereo systems. The receivers are equipped with pairs of audio input jacks for connecting stereo components such as a CD player, turntable, tape decks and even a laptop, using the computer's audio output, which is typically the headphone jack. Once connected the laptop can be used just like a stereo component for playback of digital music on the hard drive or streaming audio from a website by using an Internet connection.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the stereo mini-plug on the Y-adapter into the laptop's headphone jack.

    • 2

Connect the white and red plugs to the jacks labeled L and R, respectively, on the other end of the Y-adapter.

    • 3

Insert the plugs on the opposite end of the stereo cable into a set of left and right audio input jacks on the back of the Denon receiver. Any available pair of jacks will work. Each pair is labeled for a different component connection, so take note of which input jacks are used to hook up the laptop.

    • 4

Turn on the receiver and dial the selector knob on the front of the component to the audio jacks connecting it to the laptop. For example, if the "Turntable" jacks are used to connect the laptop, dial the selector knob to "Turntable."

    • 5

Play back an audio source on the laptop, such as a CD, digital file on the hard drive or web content. The source signal will be directed through the headphone jack to the Denon receiver.
