How to Recycle a Wedding Dress
Choosing a wedding gown is one of the more time-consuming aspects of planning a wedding, not to mention the hours spent going to fittings. Then the big day arrives, the dress is worn--and now it sits in a closet. You can recycle that dress on one of the next big days of your life, by turning it into a baptismal or christening gown for your baby.

1
Using scissors and a seam ripper, take the dress apart, taking care to conserve as much of the fabric as possible. Remove any zippers or buttons and separate the lining material and petticoats form the outer layers of fabric.
-
2
Cut out the christening gown pattern pieces and, using a warm iron, gently press the pieces to remove any wrinkles or creases.
-
-
3
Using straight pins, pin the pattern pieces to the fabric of your wedding gown, taking care to make sure that any patterns or embroidery that are present in the fabric are facing the same direction on all pieces of the pattern that you are using.
-
4
Carefully cut the fabric around the pattern pieces, using the lines on the pattern as your guide.
-
5
Use your sewing machine and a spool of thread that matches the color of your fabric to fill a bobbin with thread.
-
6
Thread your machine and load the bobbin.
-
7
Follow the instructions in the pattern and sew together the pieces.
-
8
Use fusible interfacing and a warm, dry iron to stiffen the facing on the neckline of your garment.
-
9
Gently press the completed christening gown and reserve any scraps for future projects.
