How to Transfer Tissue Paper Onto a Candle

Decorating candles is not as involved as making candles--in fact, you can decorate store-bought candles as well as any homemade candles you may have. Add images or words to the sides of pillar, tapered or votive candles. Use rubber stamps to create tissue transfers for your candles. With the wide variety of rubber stamp styles available, your options are nearly endless for customizing your own candles.

Things You'll Need

  • Wax paper
  • Scissors
  • Tissue paper
  • Rubber stamp
  • Ink pad
  • Candle (tapered, pillar or votive)
  • Heat gun
  • Cut a strip of wax paper that is the same height as your candle and can wrap around it.

  • Press a rubber stamp onto an ink pad and then onto the tissue paper. Consider using a holiday image, something like a heart or star for everyday use, or stamp letters to spell out words and phrases.

  • Cut the image out of the tissue paper with scissors.

  • Place the tissue paper (stamped side up) over the candle.

  • Wrap the wax paper around the tissue paper and hold it firmly and tightly in place.

  • Move a heat gun back and forth over the image until the image and tissue paper appear to fuse to the candle. You will know the image has fused when it looks faded through the wax paper.

  • Remove the wax paper to reveal your decorated candle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep hands away from area where the heat gun is aimed while heating the candle.
