How to Convert iTunes Songs to WAV Format

Shares & Saves

Depending on the settings in your version of iTunes and where you acquired the songs saved in your iTunes library, the audio files in iTunes may be in a format compatible only with iPods and iTunes. This can be inconvenient if you want to play those audio files in a program other than iTunes. The WAV audio format is compatible with several non-iTunes audio media players, such as the Windows Media Player program.

  • Open iTunes.

  • Click on the "Edit" category for Windows computers. Click on the "iTunes" category for Mac computers. A menu appears beneath the chosen category.

  • Select "Preferences" inside the opened menu. A window opens.

  • Click "General" located at the top of the window. Then, click "Import Settings" found in the middle of the window. A small window overlaps the big window.

  • Click the "Import Using" box inside the small overlapping window. Choose "WAV Encoder." Click "OK" to close the overlapping window. Click "OK" to close the original window.

  • Click on "Music" located inside the far left iTunes column. Every iTunes song shows up inside iTunes.

  • Select all the iTunes songs you want to convert into WAV format. Hold "CTRL" for Windows computers and the "Command" key for Mac computers, and click every iTunes song you're turning into WAV.

  • Click the iTunes "Advanced" category. Click "Create WAV Version." The iTunes songs convert to WAV format. The WAV files save in the computer's iTunes folder.
