How to Get an Offline Brother Printer to Online

"Online" and "Offline" are two terms used to describe the current state of a Brother computer printer. If a Brother computer printer is "Online", it means that the unit is powered up and ready for printing. Conversely, if the unit is "Offline" then it is switched off and will be unavailable for printing by your computer. All Brother printers have a button that you can press to get it to go from "Offline" to "Online" in an instant.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that your Brother computer printer is plugged into the wall via its power cable. If this cable is not plugged into a wall outlet, you will not be able to switch your unit from offline to online.

    • 2

Verify that your Brother printer's USB cable is connected to your computer. One end of the USB cable should be inserted into the printer cable input on the back panel of your Brother printer. The other end of the USB cable should be inserted into any available USB slot on your computer.

    • 3

Locate the "Power" button on the front panel of your Brother computer printer.

    • 4

Press and release the "Power" button to switch your printer from offline to online.
