Before you can take advantage of the Xbox 360's warranty and Microsoft's repair service, you must register the console to your account. To do this, you'll need to access the Xbox Support website.
Registering a Console Online
Logging in to the Xbox Online Service Center (see Resources) displays a list of options depending on what you need. If you've never been here before, you'll click "Register a Device" to reach the next page. To register the console, fill out the form with your name, address, phone number and the serial number of the console. You can find the console's serial number on its backside. Click "Register" when you're done, and you will see the device listed under "Manage Devices."
Benefits of Registration
When you register a console, you can submit a repair request if something goes wrong. As long as your console is still covered under the warranty -- typically a year from the day you purchased it -- you can have the console serviced at no cost. Otherwise, you'll have to pay a varying rate.
