How to Write with a Bamboo Fountain Pen
Bamboo pens have been in use since the ancient Egyptians and look similar to reed pens. Bamboo fountain pens are large and stiff and produce a scratchy-looking line. All fountain pens include a nib, where the ink flows to produce the writing; a feed, which is where the ink flows through; and ink within the pen. Prior to the invention of the fountain pen in 1884, individuals had to dip the pen into ink, write and then dip it back into the ink to continue writing. There are a few tricks to writing with a bamboo fountain pen.
Instructions

1
Hold the pen with the shiny side of the nib pointing up. This will allow for proper ink flow.
-
2
Use a proper grip by creating a triangle with your thumb and first two fingers gently positioned around the pen.
-
-
3
Keep the pen at a shallow angle when writing. If the pen is held vertically, it will not write well.
-
4
Write lightly with the pen. Bamboo pens produce a thicker, coarse-looking line when writing. This is normal. Pressing hard when using the pen or pressing very lightly will not change the look of the ink when using a bamboo pen.

5
Set the cap aside if it feels uncomfortable when you're writing with the bamboo pen, or align the clip of the cap with the nib. When you hold the pen properly, the cap will be out of the way.
