Select a birthday invitation card from Microsoft Publisher's choices in "Invitation Cards" located on the left pane of Publisher's opening page. Pick a style with simple lines and layout for dramatic and elegant effect.

Alter any elements of the template that need to be changed to suit your taste. If, for example, you prefer even less clutter, click on a border to change it or delete it.

Add a design element from "Design Gallery Object." If you want to add or change borders, for example, select "Insert" from the top of the template and scroll down to "Design Gallery Object." Select the design element, such as a border, you want from the Design Gallery and select "Insert Object."

Choose muted colors and blue or black font colors from the "Format Publications" pane on the template. View the color scheme options to get the look of the different color schemes.

Phrase the birthday invitation text with simplicity. Write, for example,
You are cordially invited to a birthday high tea in honor of Amanda Adams
in the Main Dining Room of the Brown Palace Hotel,
Denver, Colorado

Print your invitations on white or cream card stock. Send them in matching envelopes addressed in the same font style and color as the invitations.
