How to Check a Samurai Oxygen Sensor
Testing the oxygen sensor in your Suzuki Samurai can save you from buying a sensor that you do not need. If you have a digital multi-meter, you can test it yourself. If you do not have a meter, you can buy one at any auto parts or electrical supply store. The O2 sensor on the Samurai is in the exhaust manifold, and the electrical connector is in the engine compartment near the sensor. You can perform the test from under the hood in just a few minutes.
Instructions

1
Open the hood of your Samurai and locate the connector where the O2 sensor and the wiring harness come together. Do not disconnect it yet, but make sure it accessible.
-
2
Start the engine of your Samurai and let it run until it reaches a normal operating temperature. With the engine still running, disconnect the wiring harness connector from the wiring harness on the truck. Run the engine up to 2000 rpms and insert the position test lead from a digital multi-meter into one side of the connector.

3
Place the negative test lead on good ground and, with the meter set to read millivolts, watch the display. If the display fluctuates from 0-900 millivolts, the sensor is good. If the readings are steady, stay at zero or are only slightly above zero, replace the O2 sensor because it is defective.
-
4
Shut off the engine and connect the wiring harness connector to the O2 sensor harness. Then close the hood or change the sensor if the test indicates a faulty unit.

Tips & Warnings
When placing the positive test lead in the connector on your O2 sensor, it is not important which side of the connector you use. The circuit runs in a loop and will test properly from either side.
