Care for Mature Skin
Everyone's skin ages. It becomes drier with more wrinkles or spotted and prone to growths. Mature skin may be skin that has been photoaged by the sun and exposed to the elements over time. Lifestyle habits, such as smoking, drinking or poor diet will also determine our skin's condition as we mature. The single most important factor to consider in a mature skin care regimen is to replenish and preserve moisture, which will address signs of aging such as dullness, dehydration and wrinkles. 1
Stay out of the sun. Wear sunscreen when going out. Select a product with an SPF of at least 30. Wear a hat and avoid the sun at peak times between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. if you must go out.
-
2
Make regular visits to your doctor or dermatologist to assess any brown spots or growths. When skin cancer is detected early, there is an average cure rate of 95%.

3
Use natural and gentle cleansers, soaps and toners to treat and care for your skin. Look for products that are chemical-free, nonalcohol-based and without sudsing agents. Liberally apply lanolin, petrolatum and natural products, such as avocado, evening primrose, pomegranate seed and rose hips oils.

4
Bathe less frequently and use mild soaps for cleansing. Soak in warm water and take care to avoid hot temperatures, which dry skin out. Apply a moisturizer to damp skin after bathing to trap moisture.
-
5
Moisturize regularly to diminish the signs of aging and to protect your skin. Select a moisturizer with anti-oxidants to help repair mature skin. Keep your regimen as simple as possible so as to not irritate and damage skin with the excessive use of multiple products.
-
6
Use an exfoliant regularly to remove cells that are not shed as quickly. Exfoliants help to shed dead surface cells in the form of nearly invisible skin flakes that can build up and make the skin dull and rough. Exfoliation allows your moisturizer to nourish your skin better.
-
7
Eat a diet rich in omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals to help improve the collagen and elastin content of mature skin. Include plenty of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables.
-
8
Drink eight to ten glasses of fresh water each day to moisturize from the inside out. Stay away from carbonated and caffeinated drinks. Green tea, while containing some caffeine, can be beneficial.
